Nolin River Lake has an average annual visitation of over two million and maintains one of the lowest drowning rates in the State. Known for its unique blue/green water, Nolin is one of the top five lakes in Kentucky for catfish, bass, crappie, and walleye fishing. The majority of the path Nolin River follows is located within the boundary of Mammoth Cave National Park, making for very scenic canoe trips.
Reservations for Nolin River Lake are made through Recreation.gov. In peak season, the most popular campgrounds are typically claimed within minutes of each release — which is why the park reads as "sold out" for most of the year.
Sold out is not final, though. People book far ahead and plans change, so cancellations return to the official calendar throughout the season — with no announcement, at any hour. A cancelled site is bookable by whoever sees it first.
