First Golf Openings: The Tee-Time Scanner's First Readings

Our campsite engine has a sibling: a scanner that watches the GolfNow/TeeOff marketplace for 26 courses and flags the moment a sold-out course-date gains bookable inventory again — confirmed on an immediate re-fetch before it counts. In its first window of operation (Oct 30, 08:50 AM ET – Oct 31, 03:13 AM ET) it logged 23 confirmed openings: 21 distinct course-dates across 17 courses in 7 metro areas. This post publishes them as what they are — first readings, with the full table — not as trends thirty hours cannot support.

Quick answers

What counts as a golf opening?
A watched course-date that had no bookable inventory on the GolfNow/TeeOff channel in one poll and has bookable inventory in the next — and still has it on an immediate confirmation re-fetch. First sight of any course-date is a baseline and never alerts, so restarts cannot re-announce old inventory.
How many openings did the golf scanner catch first?
23 confirmed alerts covering 21 distinct course-dates at 17 courses in 7 metro areas, between Oct 30, 08:50 AM ET and Oct 31, 03:13 AM ET. The gap between alerts and distinct course-dates is re-openings: a course-date that opens, closes and opens again alerts each time.
Were the openings for future dates or same-day?
Mostly same-day: 12 of the 21 distinct course-dates were for the day the opening was detected. Golf sheets, at least in this first window, recycle at the last minute — a cancelled morning slot returns as a same-day opening, not as next week's inventory.
What did the openings cost?
Bookable price ranges in the log run from $45 (the lowest entry price on any opening) to $350 (the top of TPC Sawgrass Dye's Valley's range). These are the marketplace's own listed ranges for the returned inventory, per opening, in the table below.

TPC Sawgrass sells daily play through the TeeOff channel our scanner reads every few minutes. When a sold-out date gains bookable times and the opening survives confirmation, you get the text — while the times are still there.

Proof, from our own scanners: 1026 confirmed openings across 82 campgrounds since Oct 29, 2026 — each one re-verified before logging. See the live cancellation index.

When we launched the campsite engine, we published its first readings early and labeled them as first readings — the cancellation index began as a few hundred openings and a promise to keep counting in public. The golf engine gets the same treatment. It watches 26 courses on the GolfNow/TeeOff marketplace — the channel our feasibility work verified as the readable one — polling hot courses' near dates roughly every five minutes and the rest of the sheet roughly every fifteen, and it alerts only when a course-date transitions from no bookable inventory to bookable inventory and survives an immediate confirmation re-fetch.

The first table: every distinct opening

23 confirmed alerts fired in the window. Collapsed to distinct course-dates — an opening that disappears and returns alerts again, and counts once here — there are 21:

Three honest observations, each sized to the sample. First, the same-day tilt. 12 of 21 distinct openings were for the day they were detected. That rhymes with how golf sheets actually die: a foursome cancels the morning of, a member's guest bails at breakfast, a hot-deal slot goes unsold until the course releases it. Tee-time recycling, in this window at least, is a same-day market wearing a two-week booking window. Second, the spread of prices. The same mechanism returned a $45 municipal-style entry and the top of Dye's Valley's $350 range within the same day — scarcity is not a price tier. Third, re-openings are real. The Champions Course at TPC Scottsdale accounts for 4 of the 23 alerts across just 2 distinct dates: its Oct 31 sheet opened, closed and opened again repeatedly. A golfer who checked once at 9 a.m. and saw nothing was not wrong — the sheet simply moved again at noon.

What this does and does not establish

It establishes the mechanism, in production: sold-out course-dates on the TeeOff channel do return bookable inventory, the returns are detectable within minutes, and a confirmation re-fetch separates real openings from flicker. It does not establish rates. A first window across 7 metro areas in late October — overseed season in the desert Southwest, shoulder season almost everywhere — cannot tell you how often TPC Scottsdale reopens in March, and this post will not guess. Our earlier content-engine run skipped a golf post entirely when the log held five alerts across four facilities, because five is an anecdote. 21 distinct course-dates across 17 courses is a first reading: enough to publish the table and the method, not enough to rank courses, and we have not.

How to use a same-day market

Be bookable at short notice. If the majority of openings are for today, the winning golfer is the one whose bag is in the car and whose group chat answers fast — the opening's competition is other same-day players, not planners. Watch the course, not the date. Scottsdale's sheet re-opened repeatedly on the same date; a one-time check samples one state of a moving sheet. A watch converts that flicker into a text. Decide your price ceiling in advance. The returned inventory spans $45 to $350 across courses, and individual openings carry wide internal ranges (the earliest, cheapest slots go first). Knowing your number before the alert is the difference between booking the $45 slot and reading about it. Expect the famous sheets to move fastest. That is an expectation, not a measurement — the golf closure data that would prove it is still accumulating, and when it exists, it gets its own post with the same discipline as the campsite survival tables.

The campsite engine's first 30 hours became, within days, a thousand-opening log with survival medians and per-campground clocks. The golf engine starts here: 21 distinct openings, seven metro areas, one same-day tilt, zero invented trends. The counting continues in public.

Frequently asked questions

How does itOpened detect a tee-time opening?

The scanner polls the GolfNow/TeeOff marketplace for each watched course-date (26 courses; hot courses' near dates roughly every 5 minutes, other dates roughly every 15). When a course-date moves from no bookable inventory to bookable inventory, an immediate re-fetch must confirm it before an alert is logged.

How many tee-time openings have you found?

23 confirmed alerts between Oct 30, 08:50 AM ET and Oct 31, 03:13 AM ET, covering 21 distinct course-dates at 17 courses in 7 metro areas. These are first readings from the scanner's first window of operation, not a rate.

Why do some courses appear several times?

Because their sheets re-open. An opening that is booked (or otherwise disappears) and later returns is a new transition and alerts again. The Champions Course at TPC Scottsdale produced 4 alerts across 2 distinct dates in this window.

Are most tee-time openings really same-day?

In this first window, 12 of 21 distinct openings were for the day they were detected. That is a description of this sample — late October, seven metro areas — not yet a law of golf sheets; the sample is labeled accordingly wherever we cite it.
