Overview Located just outside of the Manzano Mountain Wilderness in the Mountainair Ranger District sits Fourth of July Campground. Here, at the mouth of Tajique Canyon, visitors come to see the largest stand of Bigtooth Maples in New Mexico and enjoy the wooded campground and nearby trails. The campground has a mix of first come first served sites as well as reservable sites.
Sites at Fourth of July Campground are reserved through Recreation.gov. Sites here can be reserved in advance through the official system, and they are claimed fast — cancellations then trickle back all season, unannounced, at any hour of the day or night.

Because sites are booked months ahead, a steady share of reservations get cancelled as trips fall through.
